DID YOU KNOW?
  • Replacing existing lighting with LEDs can save between 50% and 90% in lighting energy costs.  LEDS use substantially less power than incandescent or fluorescent lamps.

  • Available LED fixtures are compatible with incandescent, halogen, and fluorescent fixtures – just screw or snap in as you would to replace any bulb.

  • LEDS can eliminate the heat generated by many traditional lighting systems, easing the load on the air conditioning used to combat the heat.

  • LEDS are 100% recyclable.

  • LEDS contain no toxic materials, hazardous mercury or halogen gases (unlike fluorescents and high intensity discharge technologies).

  • LEDS emit no ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) radiation.

  • Unlike compact fluorescents, LEDS do not require a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or hazardous waste disposal.

  • LEDS are extremely durable.  They have no filaments of moving parts, allowing them to withstand shaking and vibrating without breaking.  They work well in hot and cold environments, can withstand moderate power surges, are not bothered by frequent cycling on and off and can be left on for extended periods without generating much heat.

  • LEDS last longer than any other type of light bulb – up to 50,000 hours.

  • LEDS offer zero interference:  no ballast means no harmonic noise or “hum.”  And they do not produce any electro-magnetic interference, either.

  • White and soft white LEDs produce a full spectrum closely resembling daylight – perfect for work, school and retail showcases.  Softer whites and colored settings can be ordered, too.

  • LEDs produce more light per watt than any other bulb.

  • Finally, retrofitting to LEDS creates substantial energy efficiencies, significantly reducing our carbon footprint.
SOME ENVIRONMENTAL FACTS:

  • 1 billion fluorescent lamps are disposed of every year globally, creating 50,000 pounds of mercury waste.  It takes just 4 mg of mercury to poison 7,000 gallons of water.

  • 70% of US electricity is produced by dirty, coal burning plants, making energy efficiency incredibly important to our air quality.

  • Buildings in the US contribute as much as 40% of our total greenhouse gas emissions due to their high electricity usage.

  • A typical commercial building’s lighting averages 37-50% of its electrical demand.

  • Building efficiency standards are expected to soon be much more stringent on both local and national levels.  For example, the Waxman-Markley Bill is expected to set building efficiency standards 30% stricter than those already in place, and New York City has passed new retrofitting rules for large buildings under renovation starting in 2013.
